Harvey was valued at $15.5B in September, selling AI to lawyers. Many of them still get paid by the hour. Every hour the software saves them is an hour they can no longer bill.
Thomson Reuters ran the math. If AI cuts a one-hour task to 12 minutes, a firm billing hourly loses 80% of the revenue on that task. So an hourly firm has little reason to pass the speed on to the client. My guess is that's a big part of why legal still feels slow to the people paying for it.
The gain goes to the firm that changes the pricing.
A firm that charges per document keeps every hour AI saves, so it has every reason to get faster. The client gets a known price and a quicker turnaround, and the firm keeps the difference.
Arceus launches today as that kind of firm. It says AI prepares every output and a licensed attorney approves each one before it goes back. Clients send work over Slack and approve a flat price up front. The firm says a contract review typically comes back in 4 to 6 hours.
Big firms could move to flat fees tomorrow. Alternative fee arrangements have sat around 20% of law firm revenue since roughly 2014, per Thomson Reuters. When partner pay rides on billable hours, I think a flat fee looks like a pay cut until the firm gets fast.
Legal AI keeps selling time savings to firms whose product is time.\n\nQT @themacliu: I’m excited to announce that @arceuslegal is launching with $17M in funding, led by @greycroftvc, with participation from @craft_ventures, @spc, and others.
As a founder, I always hated how helpless I felt working with law firms.
I went through four or five different firms and somehow the experience was always the same.
I’d be waiting on something important to our business with no idea when I’d hear back. I’d have to re-explain our business over and over again. And I dreaded jumping on calls because I knew every minute was costing me money.
We started Arceus because we believe every business deserves a better law firm.
One that moves faster, costs less, and puts the client first.
And we’re just getting started. ↓

Stop wasting money on AI tools you don’t need 👇
Most people think “paid = better”
That’s a lie.
Here’s the truth: Free AI tools can already do 80% of what paid tools offer.
You can: • Research with Perplexity • Design with Canva • Write with ChatGPT / Claude • Edit images with Photopea • Manage work with Notion
Without spending a single dollar.
So when should you pay? → When you need speed → When you want automation at scale → When quality = money
Smart creators don’t buy tools. They stack the right ones.

AI is not just taking away some tasks. It is also creating new jobs.
The Automation Engineer is a great example.
Today, building an automation is easier than ever. The harder part is knowing what to automate and how to make it work with a company’s existing teams and processes.
That’s where the real value is.
The SeatGeek example is interesting. They reportedly automated 40% of IT requests in just three weeks and more than 50% within 60 days.
I think this is an interesting role to watch as AI changes how companies work.\n\nQT @jakeserval: https://t.co/6Zvuxm4kCU

Corporate America has bought AI, but it hasn't proven it pays.
69% of the S&P 500 cite a live AI deployment, yet only 2% disclose a metric they track over time.
Rolling out AI is now a purchase decision; showing a return on it is still the exception.
Adoption is massively outrunning accountability\n\nQT @DavidGeorge83: Introducing our State of Markets pt 2, along with a companion podcast where we unpack the data and discuss what comes next.
Tech is the everything cycle.
Supply: putting the buildout in context, just passed railroads as % of GDP. The wisdom of Elon is real: the factory (or the datacenter!) is the product.
Demand: diffusion is so, so early. Median AI vendor spending in the top 1% of companies is 8x that of the top 10%. Only about 30% of S&P 500 companies report a quantified AI impact, which means there’s a substantial opportunity in connecting models to a company's data and workflows. Diffusion into companies is one of the main themes of the next 5 years.
We’re entering the agent work period. Only a few million users today, but applicable to billions of internet users with massive surplus created. META/GOOG monetize US users at $200+ per year today. Agent opportunity is much higher.
Mega-trends the next 5 years: Consumer agents, Robotics, Autonomy, AI x bio, Personal health, Diffusion into enterprise, New era of American Dynamism.

Cybersecurity stocks are trading lower
after Google unveiled Gemini 4 Argon, which is highly capable at cyber defense & will be offered to trusted defenders without cyber guardrails
OpenAI execs have also said they’re actively building cybersecurity products around Astra https://t.co/dTget3I2r3\n\nQT @wallstengine: $GOOGL UNVEILS GEMINI 4 ARGON
Google unveiled Gemini 4 Argon, its new frontier model and the top model in the Gemini 4 generation.
Here’s everything you need to know:
Pricing: 10 per 1M output tokens, with cached input priced 95% lower.
Output limit: Argon can generate up to 1 million output tokens in a single trajectory, up from 64K previously.
Performance: Google says Argon is competitive with OpenAI’s Astra and Anthropic’s Opus 5.5 across coding, enterprise work and cybersecurity. It leads several published benchmarks, including:
Vals Index: 68.9%
AutomationBench: 51.3%
Finance Agent v2: 65.4%
DeepSWE v1.1: 77.9%
LVBench: 91.7%
Internal use at Google: Argon is already being used by thousands of employees.
Google says Argon agents identified memory optimizations that freed more than 300 TiB across its data centers, with an estimated 500 TiB to 1 PiB of total savings.
It also helped optimize a quantum computing subroutine by 40%, and is being used for large-scale C/C++ to Rust migrations, including 800K+ lines for the Fuchsia Zircon kernel.
Cybersecurity: Argon scored 68% on CWE-bench v1, tying for the top score, and Google says it can autonomously find, validate and patch software vulnerabilities.
Trusted cybersecurity partners will get access without the model’s normal cyber guardrails so they can use its full defensive capabilities.
Availability: Argon is initially rolling out to select cyber defenders and Google’s internal teams.
Google says broader access will come later, starting with paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers, but no public release date was given.
Google is also participating in the Trump administration’s voluntary pre-release model access process before wider availability
